Refugee Response Team

Memorial Road

When Spero notifies us that a family is arriving, the clock starts ticking: they get three nights in a hotel while Spero uses “welcome money” to secure an apartment, pay the deposit, first month’s rent, and utilities. What they need help in providing is the human side of the move — and that’s where we come in.

Memorial Road’s job is threefold: furnish the apartment, move it all in before the family arrives, and surround them with a welcome that lasts well beyond move-in day. Four teams make that possible — find where you fit below.

Shopping Team

Purchase and donate the new personal and hygiene items for us to have on hand as refugees arrive. Donations can be dropped off in the bins in the foyer or brought to the church office. We no longer have space to store furniture or other large bulky items.

TIME ASK:  A few hours per placement, as needed

Needed Items
Moving Team

Load trucks and trailers, haul furniture and boxes, and set up the apartment so it feels ready before the family walks through the door. The Men’s Ministry is initially helping move donations to storage.

If you can help a family sponsor at short notice move furniture, email Kyle.

TIME ASK:  One moving day per placement (2–4 hrs)

Storage Hosts

Offer a garage, storage unit, or spare space to hold bulky donated items — mattresses, bed frames, couches, tables — between drives and the next move-in day.

Contact Kyle or Clay if you have space you can share.

TIME ASK:  Ongoing space, flexible commitment

Family Sponsors

“Adopt” a family or individual. You are responsible for the following: “shop” from our “store” of donations and purchase any additional needed items, move and set up the furnishings in the apartment, welcome them on arrival, check in occasionally, and invite them to attend with you at MRCC.

TIME ASK:  Occasional contact as needed
