COVID – 19 and its impact on the Edmond Public Schools schedule has created tremendous difficulty for many families with limited financial resources and few options for daytime help with their children. Firm Foundations is a ministry of MRCC that provides tutoring and educational support to Edmond families. Through our partnership with a local Edmond school and their teachers and staff, we are able to identify children that desperately need this help. The program is offered on Wednesdays from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm at Memorial Road Church of Christ. If you have just 2 hours a week, you can help make this a fantastic semester for kids that need a safe, fun place to learn!
We need tutors willing to work with 1-2 children from either 9:30 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 2:30 pm. No teaching experience is necessary. Firm Foundations has two certified teachers on-site that provide in-person classroom instruction for half the day. During the other half of the day, our volunteer tutors work with students to help them successfully complete their on-line assignments.
Volunteer Time Slots
- Wednesdays:
- Morning tutor (9:30 am – 11:30 am)
- Afternoon tutor (12:30 pm – 2:30 pm)
Every volunteer must submit to a background check. This is a simple process of completing a form via a link we will send you. The health and safety of our volunteers and students is a high priority. Firm Foundations will follow COVID protocols consistent with Edmond Public Schools. Students, volunteers and staff will wear masks indoors and social distancing guidelines will be followed. But due to the size of the program (only 36 students) and the size of our facility, we have room to spread out and students will be outside as much as possible. Chapel, lunch and recess will be a fun part of each day.
