Thank you so very much to the countless people who have sent supplies and money to benefit the victims of the recent Oklahoma tornadoes. We have an incredible abundance of donated funds and goods and are working diligently to disburse those resources to people in need.
We do not need additional donations at this time but will indicate here if that changes or if specific needs arise. We will also continue to post other updates that apply to our relief efforts.
Again, we greatly appreciate the generosity of all those who have given and served. God bless.
Please contact our Disaster Relief team at the church office (405-478-0166) to notify us of families that may need help at their property.
One of the churches we have been working with in tornado relief efforts, Central Church of Christ in Moore, called today to ask for help on THURSDAY and FRIDAY on two fronts:
1) They need volunteers for Thursday and Friday at the church building. The volunteers will clean up around the building, restock, help take supplies to people’s cars, break down boxes and unload supply trucks. If you could take a shift from 9 to 1 or 1 to 5 on either of those days, that would be awesome. 2) They need a group of people for Thursday and Friday to go out and do debris clean-up, help get stuff to storage units, and various other tasks. If you can serve in either of these ways, call Robin or Teresa in the Central church office at 405-794-4493.
Feel free to round some friends up to help. What a great way to partner with a sister congregation and serve our community!
Our donations center is filled at MRCC, so for now we are not accepting any further supplies donated.
We've had so many awesome groups and individuals who have come rushing in to serve with us over the past week and a half. Thank you so much for your support and assistance!
FOR FRIDAY, we still need 10-15 people to round out our sites for the day. If you can, come up at 8:00 AM tomorrow to help out. If you would, comment at facebook.com/memorialroad with how many you are bringing, and you might want to bring a sack lunch with you.
Have a great evening and pray for those in the path of tonight's storms.
Okay, it's been a full day and we're just getting the chance to send tonight's update - sorry for the late one! Considering the storms tonight, we had a good turnout for our meeting with victims and a great group of volunteers who put together a really excellent evening for them. The feedback was excellent.
FOR THURSDAY, we are again sending out some crews. If you can come up to MRCC at 7:50 am, please comment at facebook.com/memorialroad with how many you are bringing. Bring a sack lunch if you would.
Also, we are looking for some specific donated furniture/appliance items and people who can deliver them to families in need.
Here is the list:
1 washing machine
3 dressers or chest of drawers
Tomorrow night (Wednesday, May 29) we will be hosting a meeting for tornado victims from 7:00 to 9:00 at the MRCC building. Check in will be in the Fellowship Central area. At the meeting we will present various pieces of information that will be helpful as victims pick up the pieces and get back on their feet. See the informational flyer here for more details about this meeting and feel free to pass along to those you know who could benefit. Also, a couple of notes that we need to ask for your help with:
Tomorrow night, we ask that MRCC members please do not park in the west parking lot by the preschool wing. We want to reserve those spaces for those victims attending the meeting.
Because of the meeting, the gym will be unavailable tomorrow. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Wednesday Relief Efforts
We will not be sending as many crews for the next three days as we reassess the shifting nature of the relief efforts.
All the same, we will be helping some out-of-town groups get out into the field and we do have a few projects going on. So if you are able to come by at 8:00 AM (or even later in the day) to check in and either go out on a site or help out at the building, please do. As usual, you can let us know you're coming with a post on our Facebook page.
Another huge thank you for the scores of people who turned out to work in Wellston, Moore, Bethel, and Edmond today.
FOR TUESDAY, we are once again sending out crews to sites. Meet at MRCC at 8:00 AM. You know the routine by now: comment at facebook.com/memorialroad with how many you're bringing. Please bring a sack lunch with you if you would.
We learned today that in some areas, the nature of the work is shifting as more and more sites get cleared (thanks in no small part to God's people on the move). For Wednesday through Friday, we will be dialing back the crews in order to reassess and gear up for Saturday, when we will be fully mobilized again.
We'll be working with some awesome out of town groups in the meantime and posting some special projects for those who have time, so please stay tuned for the latest needs.
Enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day!
It's been a good day of worship and service in the wake of a difficult week. There is much to do but you have done so much good work over the past few days so thank you!
FOR MONDAY, Memorial Day, we will again be going out to serve our community. We will be meeting at 8:00 AM and will plan on working until about 4:30 or 5:00, give or take. We will be primarily in Moore and Wellston it appears.
Please comment on our Facebook post (facebook.com/memorialroad) to let us know if you're coming and how many you'll have with you.
Also, please plan on bringing a sack lunch with you tomorrow. We will have water and snacks you can take.
Finally, if you have some time to help us in the Fellowship Central area (which has become Disaster Relief Central for the time being), please feel free to come on up and check to see what's needed.
Thanks to those from all over the country and MRCC who worked with us today! We had hundreds of volunteers out in surrounding communities helping people today in addition to many working behind the scenes.
FOR SUNDAY, we are sending crews out to projects starting at noon. If you are able, we'd love to have you meet us in Fellowship Central at 12:00 PM. And feel free to wear your work gear to church if you like (including your MRCC t-shirts if you got one today)!
Leave your comment with how many you're bringing on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/memorialroad)
Looks like we'll be working in several Moore locations, Newcastle, and
Newalla. We'd also love to have some people make deliveries to firefighters.
Finally, if you would like to work in the donation center, we may need your help tomorrow as well.
FOR SATURDAY, we will be gathering here at the building at 7:00 AM and, at most sites, working into the evening. If you need to be done sooner, please plan on driving your own vehicle.
Go our post at www.facebook.com/memorialroad and leave your name and how many you're bringing in the comments. Also include whether you have/are bringing any chainsaws or heavy equipment.
If you are planning to come work tomorrow, visit our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/memorialroad) and let us know. Our job sites change daily and flexibility is key, so we are unable to guarantee where you'll be sent.
Also we need 4 people to be at MRCC at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow to go to Dale, OK. We'll be preparing food and distributing supplies there.
We're so grateful for all your help!
Tornado Relief Plans for Thursday, May 23
We will be working in several areas once again, including Newcastle, Bethel, and Shawnee. If you can go out to a work site, you have two options:
1. Meet here at 8:00 AM (we will send lunch with you)
2. Meet here at 12:00 PM (please eat lunch before you come)
For sign-ups, the best way is to just go to www.facebook.com/memorialroad and comment on the post about these projects, letting us know what time you're coming and how many you're bringing. If you're not a Facebooker, e-mail Andy Lashley and report what time you're coming and how many you're bringing. Bring along work gloves, work boots, eye protection, and other equipment that could be helpful (i.e. chainsaws, shovels, etc.). If you have heavy-duty equipment, let us know. Wear a red shirt if you can.
Thanks for everyone's great work today. Tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM, we are sending out three groups: one to Shawnee, one to Luther, and one to Newcastle. We are looking to fill up to 15 spots in each group. We will have lunch to send with these groups. Then, for those who can come up at 12:00 noon tomorrow, we will try to get you connected with one of those work sites This group will need to eat before you come up.
Please use this sign-up link so we can know who to expect: Relief Team sign-ups
Also note that there are supplies listed by each project on the sign-up form. We are rounding up these items but if you can bring any, that would be great.
For a relief effort planned for Friday in the Dale community, we are asking for donations of diapers, underwear (all sizes), bras, socks, bedding & lots of Walmart gift cards.
We appreciate the desire many people have to respond to the need for relief following the outbreak of tornadoes in Oklahoma. Memorial Road Church of Christ is organizing various disaster relief efforts that will take place in the days and weeks to come. We are very much in discovery and research mode today as we learn of needs and areas where we can be of assistance. Thank you to the many who have already gone out to work sites and come up to the building to help.
